MANAGING DIRECTOR
MARK WOOD
A self-confessed technology geek, Mark formed Control Technologies UK to help OEMs and end users adopt the latest technologies to create intelligent machines and systems. As Managing Director, Mark has overall responsibility for the direction of the company, with a sharp focus on client relationships, business development and marketing.
Prior to starting Control Technologies, Mark spent 10 years at Sensor-Technik UK, first as an Applications Engineer, then as Engineering Manager and finally as General Manager for six years. Mark has an in-depth understanding of control systems engineering and what works in the real world – not just ideas that look good on paper. Mark is an expert at taking clients through the engineering lifecycle and ensuring that solutions are delivered on time and on budget.
Working with our dynamic team of experts, Mark keeps the client at the forefront of all that we do. Outside the company, Mark spends the little spare time he has chasing after two small children (his own) and trying to re-kindle his rowing career.

Engineering Manager
WALTER STOLTSZ
Walter graduated in 2018 from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa’s leading Automotive Engineering university, holding both the GMSA Mechatronics Chair and VWSA-DAAD International Automotive Engineering Chair. Shortly after graduating with a first-class BEng (Hons) degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Walter moved to the United Kingdom to further develop his career with a focus on Electric Vehicle technology.
As the Engineering Manager at CT-UK, Walter specializes in overseeing and testing the creation of custom control-system solutions, embedded-systems software and CAN-network designs with the engineering team. Walter ensures each project is robust, efficient and delivered to the highest Engineering standards.
Mechatronics Engineering has equipped him a wealth of broad system design knowledge, as well as a fresh outlook on the many possible solutions to complex modern engineering challenges, and is dedicated to bringing out the best in CT-UK's applications team. Walter strives to push the boundaries of innovation and development, driven to find the best custom solution for our client projects using the latest advancements in Engineering.
Walter has a keen passion for motorsport, having competed for seven years in various categories of motorsport on South Africa’s local circuits at club, regional and national level. He further went on to take part in the Formula Student team of his local university and now enjoys competitive Sim-Racing in his spare time.
LEAD APPLICATIONS ENGINEER
MATT JOY
Matt Joy is our Lead Applications Engineer, having joined Control Technologies UK straight after completing his MEng in Mechatronics at Sheffield University. Matt was in fact employee number-two for the company and adapted extremely quickly to the rapid development environment, delivering solutions to clients across multiple industries in the UK, Europe and Asia.
One of Matt’s many skills is the ability to assimilate client requirements very quickly, helping the client to shape the engineering lifecycle for their system, whilst ensuring that functional safety and any technical standards are met throughout. Matt is also a very experienced software developer, delivering complex and intelligent control systems using environments such as C, CODESYS, Java, Linux and many more. Matt’s methodical and structured approach to development helps projects run smoothly and to budget and time, whilst also giving room for modifications along the way.
In his spare time, Matt can be found either renovating his new house or, as a seasoned player and coach, on the badminton court either helping other players, or making them wish they hadn’t decided to play against him.

DESIGN ENGINEER
ANDY BARLOW
Andy Barlow is our Design Engineer, focussing on system design whether that is electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or functional. Andy has a passion for taking client concepts and turning them into reality, using tried-and-tested methods, and exploiting technology to make the best systems possible.
Andy has been in the industry for nearly 40 years, initially working within hydraulics and hydraulic systems, and with a varied career path that has included everything from water jetting systems and braking systems, to complex electrical and electronic control systems. Andy worked with Mark at Sensor-Technik UK for nearly a decade, with responsibility for control systems design and build.
At Control Technologies UK, Andy works closely with our Applications Engineers to build the hardware that their software controls. Andy’s experience means that he can communicate concepts very clearly to the team and quickly translate ideas into real-world solutions.
Andy is based near the North Cornwall coast, so when he’s not designing control systems, he can be found either restoring and driving his classic VW camper van or in the surf on his longboard.

Applications Engineer
BEN PIKE
The most recent addition to the staff, Ben has 7 years of experience in controls engineering. He comes to Control Technologies from Cranfield Precision, a manufacturer of Ultra Precision machine tools, where he was responsible for designing and commissioning control systems for bespoke machines across the globe.
Before moving into the engineering world Ben graduated in 2013 with a Masters in Theoretical Physics from Durham University, from which he brings a unique approach to problem solving, and a sense of blue-sky thinking. Control Technologies is channeling these skills into our growing research and development program, in addition to his customer facing role as an applications engineer.
Ben enjoys rock-climbing and skiing when he gets the chance. He is also music lover, playing guitar in his downtime.
